Investment Philosophy

Being honest with yourself is the starting point for every good decision.

I don't believe anyone can see the whole road from the start. Every step counts, including the wrong ones, and each one becomes the judgment you bring to the next. It works that way in investing and it works that way in life: see your strengths and your limits clearly, hold yourself to account, and keep at it for the long term.

I founded Kenbun Capital after going through the whole path: building a company, advising on finance, and working in capital markets, together with my own background in financial and equity planning.

We position strategically across both primary and secondary markets. A founder who plans the financial and business model early, from a longer view of the future, stands in a very different position in the capital markets: fewer detours, and a steadier path to what they set out to build.

Kenbun Capital is not only a source of capital. We are a long-term partner to founders on financial planning, business model positioning, and capital strategy.

Background

I left the mathematics program at National Taiwan University before finishing and started working early. That was when I realized what I actually wanted to understand was the underlying logic of finance and business. So I went back to school, switched to finance at National Sun Yat-sen University, and then went into entrepreneurship.

Over those years I raised two rounds, secured three invention patents, and lived through team turnover, market education, and the constant judgment calls on financing timing. The company's early investors ultimately exited with their capital returned in full and a profit. I served as CEO myself during that period, which taught me not only how investors see things, but where founders actually get stuck in execution.

Since then I have served as CFO, financial advisor, and board member at a number of companies, and kept seeing the same thing: many businesses with real potential lose not on product, but on a lack of foresight in financial planning and capital structure.

That led to Kenbun Capital. We concentrate on traditional industries such as the circular economy and food manufacturing, and we advise before we discuss equity.

That advisory period is what the name Kenbun means: 見聞, to see and to hear for oneself.

Before we commit capital, we look and listen at first hand, and work through the endgame with the management team. Can the business stand on its own cash flow within three years, or is a future buyer already in view? We invest only once that is clear, and then stay on as CFO, board member, or in an operating capacity until the work is done.

You never see all the cards. You judge from the bidding and from every card already played, using probability and inference. It is my favorite form of thinking practice.
